An environmental organization in Providence has been awarded a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for a program that trains jobless individuals.

U.S. Sen. Jack Reed’s office says the grant to Groundwork Providence will go to recruit and train the unemployed and place them in environmental jobs. Among the positions are lead poisoning inspector, asbestos abatement specialist and hazardous waste remover.

The money will be used to train at least 54 students and place at least 45 unemployed graduates.
